Checklist
All clubs should complete the following tasks as soon as possible after launching their lottery.
Once in place, these activities continue working all year round, generating awareness and ticket sales with minimal ongoing effort.
- Add a Lottery link to your club website navigation.
- Add lottery banners to your club website.
- Create a fundraising page within your club website explaining what the lottery will help fund.
- Add lottery links to your social media profiles, bios and social link menus.
- Display posters around your club.
- Place a lottery advert in your matchday programme.
- Promote the lottery at club events.
- Promote the lottery on match days.
- Ensure staff, volunteers and committee members understand the lottery and its goals.
Monthly Lottery Schedule
Once your lottery is live, there are several key dates throughout the month that provide opportunities to promote your lottery and attract new players.
The Big Monthly Prize Draw
The Big Monthly Prize Draw takes place on the last day of every month, regardless of the day of the week.
This is a great opportunity to celebrate winners, thank existing players and remind supporters about the impact the lottery is having on your club.
Check the winners list to see whether any of your club members have won (you will be notified if you have a winner who has agreed to be included for marketing purposes).
A £25,000 winner is a GREAT reason to shout about your lottery (and the drinks are on them!).
Fab Friday Draws
Players who entered the most recent Big Monthly Prize Draw are automatically entered into four weekly Fab Friday Draws in the period following the monthly draw at no additional cost.
The draw takes place on the first four Fridays of each month.
These bonus draws provide another opportunity to remind supporters about the lottery and encourage new sign-ups.
Talk about Fab Fridays on your social media channels and in your group chats.
Grant Day
Provided you have one or more active players, your club will receive a monthly Grant payment from The Fundraising Club based on £6 per player, per month.
Grant payments are usually made on the 14th day of each month.
Grant Day is a great opportunity to thank lottery players, update supporters on the amount raised and remind members how additional ticket sales can increase future Grant payments.
Draw Deadline Day – 20th of the month
Tickets purchased before 9.59pm on the 20th of each month are entered into that month's draw.
Days 18, 19 and 20 provide an excellent opportunity to remind supporters that time is running out to enter the draw.
Ideas to Grow Your Lottery
Ideas to Grow Your Lottery
The following activities can help you attract new players, increase ticket sales and maximise fundraising for your club. Once in place, many of these activities will continue generating awareness and ticket sales throughout the year.
Additional Website Promotion
If you've already completed the website actions in your launch checklist, great work!
As your lottery grows, continue looking for opportunities to keep it visible across your website and highlight the difference it is making to your club. Your lottery stories also give you content opportunities which help keep your website relevant and up to date.
Consider:
- Updating fundraising totals and impact stories
- Adding lottery mentions to relevant news articles
- Featuring the lottery on seasonal or campaign pages
- Refreshing banners and promotional content throughout the year
Social Media Promotion
Use your club's social media channels to keep your lottery visible throughout the year. It works both ways too – your lottery gives you loads of opportunities to generate and publish content regularly - even out of season.
Remember to:
- Promote your fundraising cause
- Share regular lottery updates – including how close you are to your lottery fundraising goals
- Thank supporters for playing – tell them how they are helping and ask others to ‘Do Their Bit’ too
- Add lottery links to your social media profiles, bios and link menus
- Share winner announcements
- Remind supporters about key draw dates
Posters & Printed Materials
Posters remain one of the simplest ways to promote your lottery.
Continue displaying posters around your club and look for opportunities to add them in new locations.
Display posters in:
- Clubhouses
- Noticeboards
- Changing rooms
- Toilets
- Bar areas
- Spectator areas
Your Lottery Ambassadors can also help by asking local businesses to display posters or flyers, particularly businesses that already support the club through sponsorship or other fundraising activities.
Consider approaching:
- Local shops
- Cafés
- Hairdressers and barbers
- Pubs and restaurants
- Community venues
For many local businesses, displaying a poster or flyer is a simple way to support your club and help boost fundraising without any additional sponsorship cost.
You can also include lottery adverts in matchday programmes, other club publications, and consider getting ads (or even better – free editorial) printed in local publications which are either paid for or dropped through local letterboxes.

Club Events
Every club event provides an opportunity to promote your lottery.
Whether it's a presentation evening, fundraising event, social gathering or tournament, make sure your Lottery Champion and Ambassadors are ready to talk about the lottery and help supporters sign up.
Encourage existing players to bring along a friend, family member or fellow supporter who may also wish to get involved.
Use your Engagement Prompt, Lottery Key Fobs, QR Codes and the Do Your Bit App to make joining as easy as possible.
Match Days
Match days provide regular opportunities to reach players, parents and supporters.
Consider:
- Matchday announcements
- Posters around the ground
- Programme adverts
- QR Codes in key locations
- Conversations with supporters before and after games
- Digital scoreboards/clubhouse tv screens (where available)

Staff & Volunteers
Make sure staff, volunteers, committee members and coaches understand the lottery and the difference it is making to your club.
The more people who understand the lottery, the more opportunities there are to promote it throughout the year.
Lottery Champions and Ambassadors
Your Lottery Champion and Ambassadors shouldn't stop promoting the lottery after launch.
Encourage them to continue having conversations, identifying new supporters, recruiting additional Ambassadors where appropriate and promoting the lottery at club activities throughout the year.
As your lottery grows, you may also wish to identify new volunteers who can help spread the word and support fundraising efforts.
Small actions, carried out consistently, can make a significant difference to ticket sales and fundraising income over time.
